Why did they build the colosseum?
The
Colosseum was used for gladiator contests, sea battles, animal hunting,
re-enactments of famous battles, dramas and sometimes the Olympic Games. Some
of the animals for water battles were hippopotamuses and crocodile’s. The out
of water animals were elephants, giraffes, lions, panthers, leopards, bears,
tigers, ostrich’s and rhinoceros. Underground there were passages, dressing rooms, cages, cells and
storage rooms. The Colosseum was built to provide entertainment for the people of Ancient Rome. It would keep
the people from complaining to the kings. When the Colosseum was first built there
was no actual floor, all the events would happen on the ground. Later on, they put in the floor.
